Mumbai Indians won the toss and Rohit Sharma decided to field first. Captain Shane Watson came out to bat along with the young Sanju Samson. The decision proved unwise as the Aussie never really looked settled before departing for a meager 8 runs from 18 deliveries. Another youngster Karun Nair walked in and along with Samson, took the score to 134 in 15 overs. Brad Hodge and James Faulkner also chipped in with some fine batting and took Rajasthan’s score to a respectable 189/4 in the allotted 20 overs.
Mumbai Indians now needed to score the winning runs in 14.2 overs if they needed to progress. Corey Anderson scored a quick fire 44 ball 95 runs but the real drama happened when James Faulkner came out to ball the last over. With 9 needed off 3 deliveries, Anderson scored 1 of the first ball. Rayudu sent the ball out of the park with his next delivery which left Mumbai needing 2 off 1 to progress. Rayudu got run out trying to steal a second and with scores level, a new equation cropped up. Mumbai could still qualify if they score a boundary off the next ball. Aditya Tare was on strike and hit a massive six as the Wankhede erupted to celebrate Mumbai’s progress. Mumbai will now face Chennai Super Kings in the eliminator while Punjab Kings XI and Kolkata Knight Riders will play the 1st qualifier.
